2019 Macomb County Special Olympics

The Macomb County Special Olympics was held this week and with approximately 225 Lutz athletes competing and over 1,000 athletes overall — it was a great day for everyone!

The Special Olympics is a great opportunity for our students to show off their athletic abilities, enjoy a healthy dose of friendly competition, or stand up and cheer for their friends and all the participants. Although not competing this year, my son Zack went to the event with three objectives:

  1. Cheer his friends on as well as cheer for everyone giving it their all.
  2. Snap photos for me, so we could share some of the excited faces of our Lutz students.
  3. Be a fly in the ointment — after all, he’s only got one more year at Lutz, so he’s got to make the most of it!

Here are a couple of his shots:

I was very specific when I told Zack not to take all selfies. I should have been a bit more specific and told him to take pictures of EVERYONE and EVERYTHING because although he did take some pictures that were not selfies, all the picts were of his friends. But hey, beggars can’t be choosy.

Anyway, I did get one other photo from another parent showing some of the activity that took place outside and what a beautiful day it turned out to be.

And Janni I think her hair looks awesome!

Hard to believe that just 24 hours prior to this photo the skies were dark, the rain was falling, and doubt abounded as to whether or not the Olympics would be called on account of weather. As John so eloquently pointed out, “The Special Olympic angels were looking down on us.”

A great day all around for the athletes, staff, and spectators. Just another prime example of the great opportunities Lutz School makes available to our students!
