August is National Sandwich month and for the next week we are going to have some fun with making, eating, and learning about all the different types of sandwiches.
I would venture to say that everyone likes a good sandwich! You might think, “No way! I don’t like sandwiches.” But do you know what makes a sandwich a sandwich? A sandwich is…

An item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them.
This means ANYTHING you put between two pieces of bread (and this includes buns) is a sandwich! And remember, there are a ton of different kinds of bread, so things like pizza pie (with a top and bottom crust), calzones, pitas, wraps, etc. are sandwiches too. Today your challenge is to list as many different types of bread as you can think of. Plus, if you’d like, you can complete the crossword puzzle below about Bread.

Later in the week you will be challenged with making your own sandwich, so start giving this some thought. Maybe you make sandwiches all the time. Maybe you’ve never made your own sandwich. This week, let’s see if you can prepare your very own sandwich and send in a picture of your creation. I’m giving you a heads-up on this, just in case you make your sandwich before we actually get to that challenge and want to snap a picture.
Enjoy your day and happy eating.
