Apply for Home Help Services

The Home Help program is administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and provides personal care services to individuals who need hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and assistance with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs).  MDHHS is responsible for approving Home Help providers for participation in the program.  Assistance is available for individuals who need help with daily activities and meet eligibility requirements. To receive Home Help services, a person must be eligible for Medicaid and require physical assistance with at least one activity of daily living.

NOTE: Home Help Services can be performed by parents, guardians, siblings, etc. and they will be compensated for this service.

To prepare for this service, make a list of all the special needs your adult needs help with. Remember, this is not a time to feel you have somehow failed your adult if they are unable to do certain tasks. The more tasks you list that your adult cannot complete on their own or without assistance, the greater chances are he/she will qualify for services.

You may qualify for assistance with activities of daily living: In addition, you may qualify for assistance with instrumental activities of daily living:
Eating or Feeding Taking medication
Toileting Meal preparation
Bathing Laundry
Grooming Housework
Dressing Shopping for essential items
Transferring from one position to another
