Minutes

Sign in, meeting began, introductions.

Principal’s report: Principal John Nader said staff is busy with end of year functions and planning for next year. Student packets will be coming home Thursday to be filled out and returned at the start of the new term. Lutz will have 273 students this fall, a pretty high number. Also, the recent Completer’s banquet was wonderful. It was at a new venue, Penna’s, and everyone – students, parents and staff – was pleased. John and Nick said Lutz will hold next year’s banquet there. Ilene Bernstein, outgoing LPG treasurer and parent of a completer, had one complaint: she was seated near the kitchen doors and it was quite noisy and difficult to hear what was happening. John and Nick promised to look into that. Kids had a really good time, our school board was also there.

Connie, longtime para-pro in Hospital Housekeeping, is retiring. LPG is sending a card. She’s been with MISD for many years. There will be a potluck for her on Thrusday.

On a sadder note, previous Lutz Principal Glenn Helver (sp??) passed away. He will be missed, and was a very dear man. Sandy Young suggested LPG do something on his behalf, such as planting a tree or something permanent. Other ideas include a bench.

That reminds John that Lutz has a new garden in the back. A Lutz parent did some volunteer work, tilled the plot and fenced it in. It’s very beautiful, everyone should check it out. There’s a plaque, but the parent doesn’t want to be recognized or have any fuss made.

The LPG Account balance is $13,849.74 (some checks haven’t cleared, so bank statement is higher). Also, Ilene just wrote a check to Sandy Young for supplies.

John also showed a copy of the staff planner LPG is giving to every staffer for the new school year.

Gold/Silver Dance recap: It was a very nice dance with a great photo booth staffed by Xuan. Of the students in attendance, 16 were completers and 5 were new students. Lisa D. showed us a slideshow of the dance. Food service went well and the cakes were perfect. Decorations were really nice. Eight tables were good. Lisa noted that this dance cost more because of the photo booth, multiple cakes and the fact that new students and completers didn’t pay registration so less money came in. We have some decorations saved for next year. Although we will probably lose money on this dance, we take in money at other dances so it’s probably a wash.

We set the LPG meeting schedule for the 2019-20 school year: meetings will be the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. We robabaly won’t have a July 2020 meeting, but will possibly have an August meeting.

Fundraising: Norma is willing to do Achatz pie fundraiser again, also Ann or someone else will do Butter Braids in Spring for Mothers Day/Easter use . We have Weingartz, too, but won’t pick an actual date for some time. We will have a Lutz clothing sale, which technically isn’t a fundraiser but usually brings in a few bucks. Also will do Lottery Tree theis fall. (John will handle that, he buys the tickets and then reimburse himself from the sales).

Sandy Young asks that polo shirts to be included for purchase during the Spirit Wear sale so kids can wear them at their work sites. We need to find out the various colors that are required and have them as an option.

We are looking for someone to co-chair the Winter/ Valentine’s Day Dance. We should probably wait to pick a date until we get a chair. We haven’t had Valentine-themed dance for a while so that would be nice. Let’s try that.

Also, this year Julie would like to do more for staff during teacher appreciation week than just a lunch. She wants to do something every day that week for our teachers and staff.

At the end of the meeting, we presented flowers and a card to Ilene, who has done so much for LPG but with her daughter completing this year, is leaving the group. She will be greatly missed.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
