Custom Animal-Type Cracker Submissions

April 19, Keep In Touch Daily Challenge participants were challenged to come up with their very own theme for a box of cookies similar to Animal Crackers. Here is what they came up with:

Taylor P chose the WWE (same as both the Zack’s in our regulars) Love this idea! I thought for sure she’d go with all the Wrestling Divas but she kept it very even with boys and girls — a great marketing technique. You don’t want to limit your audience. Nice! Plus she even made a box for her cookies — now she just needs to fill it!

Brendan J had three ideas. Don’t know how I feel about eating a spider, but if it’s chocolate I’d force myself. He’s got some really great ideas. I especially love the Scrabble idea. I wonder if they have Scrabble cookie stamps…guess it’s off to Amazon I go.

  1. Theme: Arachnids
    • Cookie Shapes: Tarantulas, Wolf Spiders, Jumping Spiders, Orb Weavers, Black Widows, Scorpions (probably a couple species), Webs (a couple styles. Likely a “geometric” orb weaver web& and a “sloppy” black widow web), Flies
    • Additional Cookie Shapes: Mites and Ticks
    • What would the box look like: Small box with colorful drawings depicting critters inside.
    • What will your cookies taste like: Plain or chocolate flavor; Arachnids & Insects are stamped into the creatures’ shapes, because these are much more fun to eat.
  2. Theme: Insects
    • Cookie Shapes: Bees (A couple of shapes/species), Wasps, Butterflies, Moths, Flies, Grasshoppers, Praying Mantis, Ladybugs, Goliath Beetles, Mosquitos
    • Additional Cookie Shapes: Gnats and Pillbugs
    • What would the box look like: Small box with colorful drawings depicting critters inside.
    • What will your cookies taste like: Honey or Honey Graham in honor of bees. Insects can also be bought as “frosted” with LOTS OF BRIGHT COLORS! Arachnids & Insects are stamped into the creatures’ shapes, because these are much more fun to eat.
  3. Theme: Scrabble
    • Cookie Shapes: 1 BIG GRAHAM CRACKER SCRABBLE BOARD, FULL COMPLEMENT OF SCRABBLE TILES
    • Additional Cookie Shapes: Graham Flavored Tile Holders
    • What would the box look like: This is only available as a large bag/box with a picture of Scrabble on the package.
    • What will your cookies taste like: Plain or graham. No FROSTING! Board is a BIG square. Tiles are smaller squares with letter and point value impressed.

Antonya likes the traditional Animal Crackers with a gorilla, giraffe, sheep, tiger, bear, monkey, rhinoceros, seal, sheep, tiger, and zebra. Her box would be a box star and heart with zoo animals and the flavor would be “taste regular and have a little bit of vanilla maybe.” You can’t improve on a classic!

Brandon B also likes the traditional Animal shaped crackers. He likes the shapes: Lion pig tiger hippo zebra kangaroo seal elephant bear polar bear, would like a square box, and his flavor would be chocolate! Who doesn’t like chocolate!

Roxanne’s cookies are very specific. Very inventive! This could always be customized by county, city, state, or even regions. The possibilities are really endless.

  • What is going to be the theme for your cookies?: I am going to base my theme on the 1959 song High School USA, the Detroit version by Tommy Facenda
  • List 10 shapes that will be found in your cookie box.: I want to feature different high schools in the Detroit Metro Area. Because they would all look different, I want to have the image stamped on to the cookies. I think it would look better that way. Some high schools I would like to feature are: Henry Ford High School in Detroit, Sidney D. Miller High School in Detroit, Edwin C. Denby High School in Detroit, Jared W Finney High School in Detroit, Osborn High School in Detroit, Grosse Pointe North High School in Grosse Pointe Woods, De La Salle Collegiate High School in Warren, Roseville High School in Roseville, Dakota High School in Macomb Township, Lake Shore High School in St. Clair Shores, Southfield -Lathrup High School in Southfield, Madison High School in Madison Heights, Troy Athens High School in Troy and Lincoln High School in Warren.
  • List any additional shapes that you want included in your cookie boxes.: Books, Diplomas, Cheerleaders, Football players, Marching Band, Pom/Dance and a yearbook.
  • What will your box look like? Will it be a special shape? Will there be any pictures on it? What will your cookies be called? Describe the box and/or send me a picture of what you want it to look like.: I would feature photos or artist renderings, of some of the above named high schools. I think I would pick Miller as my main subject for the box though. It was opened in 1922! Still standing today! That makes the school 99 years old! Quite impressive!
  • What will your cookies taste like? Will they be vanilla, chocolate, raspberry, multiflavored? Will they have sprinkles, frosting, filling, etc.? Will they be colorful? : Just regular vanilla, nothing fancy.

Matthew S went with Vacuum Cleaners, which wasn’t surprising, but I was surprised with all the variations he came up with. Zack’s helping his dad change a broken belt on our vacuum today. He’ll definitely be thinking about Matthew as he does it.

It will have a box frame and base with a resealable bag on the back side. It will be a plain blue background with the name “Matthew’s Vacuum Crackers” on it in red letters.
  • What will your cookies taste like? Will they be vanilla, chocolate, raspberry, multiflavored? Will they have sprinkles, frosting, filling, etc.? Will they be colorful? : They will come in vanilla with several different colors (red, blue, orange and yellow) and another bag of red frosted crackers with multicolored sugar beads.

Megan P went with Under the Sea which Zack D. toyed with before settling on the WWE. I especially love the mermaid shape choice and the sprinkle air bubbles — SUPER! And cheesecake flavor!!! Wow, that gets my mouth watering.

Zachary L went with the WWE just like Taylor and Zack D., but he came up with a really great name for his cookies: WWE Crunchdown Cookies! That’s awesome. Maybe we should get the three of them together to brainstorm other great WWE food products. Might be a future in it for them.

Ashton M. came up with a really great idea: A Box of Fun! It has something for everyone and he even got a friend of his to help him with his box design (see photo below). I wasn’t sure what the Badger boat was, but as soon as I Googled it I remembered. When we were up in Ludington a few years ago, we watched it come in. Great choice!

Samantha E. chose Cartoon Characters — one of my favorite things. Yep, you’re never too old for cartoons! I actually watch Scooby Doo almost every night when I want to wind-down and relax before shutting off my light to go to sleep. The original series came out when I was a kid, so it is a big comfort to me.

Describe the box and/or send me a picture of what you want it to look like.: 2000’s Cartoon Cookies It will have all the characters together on a regular shaped box. I can’t draw all of these but it would be bright and happy!

Will they be colorful? : vanilla with frosting on them either strawberry or vanilla frosting. You can buy some with sprinkles but no filling. I like the cookies to be just like animal cookies and they would be soft not hard.

Dominique Q decided to go the healthy route. I like this idea because having a healthy choice for an animal-type cracker is a good thing, especially for those that can’t have a lot of sugar. A really great idea.

Brianna B came up with a really fun submission. She chose to do emoji cookies. What a great idea! Love the fruit flavor idea.

Zack D. went with the WWE as well. His choice was to go with all wrestlers and have their name imprinted on one side and their image on the other, have a chocolate cream filling between the two and maybe add some sprinkles to the filling for good measure. There would also be a contest to see who could find a box with the WWE emblem cookie in it and they’d win a prize. The box would showcase both current and Hall of Fame wrestlers and maybe even have collectors cards in the box. The cards would be pictures of the wrestlers with their cookie.

This was a great activity. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did. Maybe we’ll do something similar to this another time.
