Lutz Parents Group Meeting
January 8, 2019
LPG President Julie Berger passed around cards for several Lutz families who have suffered health problems and other issues.
John Nader was unable to attend tonight’s meeting so VP Nick DeVault delivered the Principal’s Report: We have two things coming up, one being we are going to start our assessment period for students. Hopefully everyone has signed a permission slip. The state of Michigan has changed some of the rules. We are also going to be signing up students for health ed classes, in separate male and female sections. Look for notes coming home on that. Ann Martin noted that she thinks Lutz does a good job with this. She said the class is taught at a level her daughter can understand.
Current LPG bank account balance: Eileen, our treasurer, was also unable to attend, but sent an email with the balances. She’s still recovering from surgery. Balance is $15,492.66, including payout of $580 for the recent Christmas lunch and a deposit from the Spirit Wear sale. However, the bill for the Spirit Wear sale has yet to be paid. We still have to write the check. Ann says we’ll make close to $300, once everything is settled. We had 60 orders totaling 116 items. We deposited $2,790, and the pending invoice is for $2,336. We are waiting for an invoice for seven volunteer shirts
Holiday lunch recap: Everything went well. This year, we had parents pick up the pizza and we might want to go back to having it delivered, as many of our parent-volunteers had trouble with the heavy lifting. It also required two large vehicles to ferry the pies from the store to Lutz. Julie says some staffers wondered why they weren’t given ornaments, so next year we may want to poll staff to find out how many want ornaments and adjust our order accordingly.
Snow Ball: Norma is here, Julie says things are coming together well. Norma wonders whether we can make some changes to the Snow Ball, we discuss, and decide there’s no reason why we can’t.
Lauren suggested having a room with movie and popcorn, at same time as the dance, for kids who are bothered by the noise and commotion of the dance.
Norma: We will have popcorn, donuts, rice crispy treats. Also will have punch.
Lauren said John wants classes to make decorations for the cafeteria.
Spirit wear recap from Ann Martin: We had orders from staff, students and even some bus drivers. Everybody seemed to like their stuff. Ann says for next year, she might do things a little earlier so it isn’t so close to Christmas. Two biggest hits were the PAWS shirts and the hoodies. The only thing, we’re waiting on is one shirt. Eileen is sending a payment check to the company. Next year, we may have samples at the Halloween Dance instead of waiting for parent conferences.
New Business: We discuss potential topics for parent information sessions: We want to schedule a session for an expert to provide info on MiAble, a new state program that allows families to set up a savings account for special needs individuals without losing Social Security
