Meeting Minutes

Principal’s Report: Greenhouse still has flowers, anyone interested in purchasing plants should contact Donna. John Nader thanked Lauren for her efforts on a terrific Field Day, which he said was organized to a T. Lauren added her thanks to all parents who volunteered. A Lutz student, Deontae (sp??) was named YMCA Volunteer of the Year for his work at the Mt. Clemens Y. Lutz parapro Wendi also was recognized.

Nick DeVault attended a conference where our program to train students in bus mechanics at the ISD garage was recognized.

John said 15 Lutz students attended Special Olympics, some other Lutz students attended with various other groups. All were recognized at an assembly.

As of today, we expect 57 new students this fall. Thirty-four current students are completing in August. New parent orientation is tomorrow, and Kim, our LPG president, will speak to them. Also tomorrow, Completers will be going to the Tiger Game.

The LPG account balance was $11,886 last month. We got a donation from a friend of Kim’s, and we paid for last month’s teacher appreciation luncheon. Our current balance is $11,917.34.

Ann Martin recapped the June 2 Weingartz fundraiser. Julie and Ann started the Lutz shift at the Hot Dog stand, Paul and Beth came later in the day. We made $369.75, of which $77 was donations rather than hot dog sales. The event went well, we would like to do it again next year. Volunteers had a good time. Ann and Julie said we should plan on bringing an extra cooler, prep table, a bigger donation jar and some cut up onions. We also need a sign/picture board featuring Lutz students.

Completer’s Committee: Nick said two companies came out to bid on installing a Bocci court, no word yet on details. It might be slightly more complicated than was initially thought because the installation will need a drainage system.

We also discussed the possibility of having a speaker familiar with the MiAble program come to Lutz. It’s a new program that allows parent/guardians to set up tax exempt account for their child for living expenses, health care, etc. MiAble waives the $2,000 limit that kids must stay under to qualify for Medicaid. We will try to schedule something for the Halloween Dance, which is well attended by parent.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, July 25 at 6:30 p.m.
