Lutz Parents Group

June 15, 2020

This meeting was conducted via Zoom, due to COVID19 and school closures.

Nick DeVault, Lutz Assistant Principal, discussed plans for a car parade at 6 pm tomorrow at Lutz, as a way for students and staff to reconnect while still staying socially distant. About 50 staffers will be located at various points around the Lutz campus and students and their families can drive by and visit while remaining in their cars.

Nick also told the group that staff and the MISD are still working toward a fall reopening, and hope to know more by July. Schools are still waiting for guidance from the state.

The LPG account balance is $12,982.27. Treasurer Janni McLean will be writing some reimbursement checks, but still hasn’t gotten an invoice from the company producing the bench that will be a gift to the school from the Completers’ Class of 2020. It cost $570 and will be inscribed “Thank You Lutz, Class of 2020.” LPG president Julie Berger said the company has started work on the bench, but she isn’t sure when it will be completed.

Since our last meeting, families of this year’s completers have formed a committee to oversee the bench production and other issues, especially in light of the pandemic. Lutz has purchased Tees for each completer, and Principal John Nader said they are quite nice. LPG is planning to buy lawn signs for each completer as well as some other swag. A Completer Ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 13, but we don’t know whether that will go forward as planned because it’s unlikely we will be permitted to hold an indoor reception for 300-plus people.

Nick suggested holding some sort of reunion for this year’s completers next year.

Yearbooks haven’t been delivered yet, but will be mailed to students when they arrive.

Julie still wants to do some sort of staff appreciation events this fall, since the LPG already bought gift cards and items that were to be used for Teacher Appreciation Week this past May, when school was shut down. The items are being stored at school.

LPG also approved changes to our group’s officers. President Julie Berger and Vice President Lisa Dukicin both have children who are completing this summer, and they will be leaving the group. The LPG has voted to have Treasurer Janni McLean replace Julie as president and Jim Young, an LPG member, replace Janni as treasurer. Secretary Jackie Boyle Galvan will continue as secretary. LPG is still looking for a vice president. The changes will take place in August.

We are not sure when our next meeting will take place.
