Lutz

Facebook Group

In March of this year, when the world began to change as we knew it, I introduced a Facebook Group for our students where they could connect and chat in a safe environment. With all the uncertainty our students were facing, I thought it would be a good time to introduce this type of forum for current and past students of Lutz to interact and “keep in touch.” If you’d like to read more about how this group came about, click here to read the introduction.

This is a private group, so although the group can be searched on Facebook, no one can see the content or join unless approved. For now, posts will not be moderated, but if I find there are inappropriate posts, or if anyone reports inappropriate content, this will be changed. I want to try to allow the students to connect without having to wait for every comment to be approved.

The link to join this group is: Lutz Keep In Touch or just search Lutz Keep In Touch in Facebook and the membership page should come up. If you have any questions or comments, you can respond to this email or email me personally at dukicinclan@gmail.com.

Since the introduction of Lutz Keep In Touch, we have had 176 students, parents, guardians, and Lutz staff join the group. Scrolling through the daily posts, you will see several “regulars” that post nearly every day, as well as those that make an occasional post. On the surface it may look like there really isn’t much activity. If you talk to the contributors, however, you would realize that it’s not all about the posts. I know from my son Zack’s point of view, who typically posts everyday, that although he loves to get ‘Likes’ and ‘Comment,’ seeing how many ‘Seen’ is by far the most encouraging to him. Most posts receive more than 75 views every day and by the end of the week, most of the posts have many more than that.

This group wasn’t started just so the students could have another avenue to post about what they’re doing on a daily basis. It allows them to see what their friends, fellow students, and former students are doing to get through life. Each day poses new challenges for all of us. Knowing that there are others out there ‘in the same boat,’ may offer just a little comfort. The basis for this group is the Lutz School connection where our students spent or are spending many formidable years. When it does come time for students to ‘complete,’ typically they do not want to leave. This group is one way for them to stay connected and absolutely — Keep In Touch.

Please remember, the Lutz Keep In Touch Group is specifically for our students. I realize that many students may not have their own Facebook accounts, so parents/guardians are encouraged to join this group on their behalf. Please keep in mind though that this is a group for the students and all content posted should be either by the students, on behalf of the students, or for the students. Feel free to make posts directed to students individually on as a whole. Likes and comments from parents are also encouraged and welcome.

Take care,
Lisa Dukicin
