Meeting Minutes

Everyone signed in. VP Lisa D. presiding, as LPG president Julie Berger is away.

Principal’s report: John Nader said staff and students really enjoyed the Little Caesar’s portable kitchen visit last week. Everyone got pizza; photos were taken.

John also reminded everyone to get out and vote tomorrow, March 10, which is Election Day. In addition to the presidential primary, voters in Macomb County are being asked to approve a millage for all county schools.

Nick DeVault thanked everyone who donated to him and other members of the MISD team for the annual Polar Plunge. The ISD team raised over $16,000, which was more than any other team. He said this year’s event was great.

Janni M. reports that our current account balance is $13,990.60, according to the most recent statement at the end of January. Since then, some monies have been taken out for the Valentine’s Day dance.

Valentine’s Dance: It was a huge success, with 114 students attending and lots of volunteers. We also had a great group of high school student volunteers, who were very helpful and kind to our students.

Staff Appreciation week: Barb left the form in the office for ordering the Tim Horton’s gift cards from Glen Peters School’s scrip program, thus also benefiting Peters. Lisa has finished the coffee-cup cardholders, she and Julie will assemble them once the gift cards are purchased. The plan for the week is: gift cards on day 1, muffins on day 2, and lunch on day 3. Day 4’s token is still to be determined. Since School Bus Driver appreciation day falls within that same week, we also decide to distribute Lutz-baked cookies to our bus drivers and bus aides.

Lauren K reports that plans are proceeding for this year’s Field Day, set for May 21. Games will be outside, weather permitting. Lunch is hot dogs and chips. A dunk tank has also been donated for the event. Lisa has ordered sunglasses again; this year’s color is yellow.

Lauren also said notes are going home for Student Council’s Easter Giving Week. John will also send it out as an email, in case some parents don’t get the notes. Also, Heavenly Hats fundraiser turned out well, raised $125.

Ann Martin, who was unable to attend tonight’s meeting, sent word that she is waiting to hear from the new Weingartz organizer and the Butter Braid organizer for more info on these fundraisers.

New Business: Regarding the choice of items for an annual class gift: Tony sent out a Survey Monkey survey to staff. Choices were benches, table or pergola. Thirty-five people voted and most liked the pergola. Tony did some checking, and pergolas are quite expensive, cheapest ones starting at $1,300. We think benches, placed on the path where students walk, might be a better choice. John will check into bench prices

Bob and Mary Johnson said they are pretty much set for the April 23rd Hawaiian Dance. Invites need to go out soon. Lisa will send them last year’s flyer and registration form for updating. John would like it to go out by March 30.

Regarding a spring Spirit Wear sale: Ann Martin isn’t here tonight, so we’ll put it on next month’s agenda. We also decide to look into using EA Graphics, which is one of our new job sites. It has an online store and folks who have used it like the convenience. Barb and Lisa will look into this.

Lisa said she recently took self-determination training (for hiring aides) and felt there was lots of good information. She will be putting together some of the info for others to see.

The next LPG meeting is April 13 at 6:30 p.m.
