After introductions, Principal John Nader presented the Principal’s Report: The 57 new Lutz students have had a really successful first week. Today, all students recited the Pledge of Allegiance and observed a moment of silence in commemoration of 9/11.
John brought us up-to-date on Macomb Academy, saying it will remain open at least for this school year. The long-term outlook still is uncertain, but at least academy officials and parents will have some time to figure out where to go from here. He promised to share information as it becomes available.
John also urged everyone to attend the Sept. 25th State Board of Education candidate forum, hosted by and at the MISD at 7 p.m.
The LPG bank account balance is $11,356.99, with no checks or drafts written this month.
Lisa D. gave a short presentation on LPG’s new Facebook and Web pages. The Facebook page has been up for about a month, with 72 views so far. We need to get 2,000 followers in order to customize our page. The web page is lutzparentgroup.family.blog. Both pages contain LPG information, plus school information and events.
Halloween Dance: Lisa, Paul and Beth are co-chairing the upcoming Halloween Dance on Thursday, Oct. 25th from 6:30-8:30 pm. LPG president Julie Berger urged them to start contacting parent volunteers now. We’ll also have student volunteers from Chippewa Valley and Macomb International Academy high schools. A flyer on the event will go out soon. Julie noted that even though we ask students to buy tickets in advance, we don’t turn anyone away if they simply show up the night of the dance.
Asst. Principal Nick DeVault reminded everyone that the annual information seminar Lutz & Beyond, with advocates from various area service agencies, will take place simultaneously with the dance. Parents can drop their students at the dance and then attend the seminar.
The dance schedule for this school year is Halloween, Oct. 25; Snow Ball, Jan. 17; and Hawaiian Dance, April 25. Parent/Teacher Conferences are Thursday, Nov. 15th. (LPG typically pays for a teachers’ meal on this day) The student Holiday Lunch is Dec. 20th.
We discuss several fundraising ideas, including restaurant days, Amazon Smile, Euchre tournament, a hall party with dinner and entertainment, Butter Braids, Germack nuts, English Gardens flower of the month and school clothing sale. Julie reminded the group that we need to decide whether we want to focus on lots of small fundraisers or just a couple of big ones. Paul said we also need to figure out how much cash we need for yearly expenses.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 9th at 6:30 p.m.
